OVERLAND FARMERS MARKET

Committees

Growers Committee
The Growers Committee finds and works with local Growers including farms big and small, vineyards, gardeners and orchards. Growers that choose Farmers Markets may be sourced through 2009 OFM vendors, managers of other markets, trade associations such as 4H, FFA, MFMA and specialty guilds. LocalHarvest.org has been a reliable source, along with AgriMissouri (MDA) and the two state University Cooperative Extention offices. OFM Bylaws on ratios must be met.

Special Events & Music Committee
To bring in consumers, the OFM features live music weekly and Special Events, both of which help the growers sell more produce.  Special Events included Junkarama, a pumpkin decorating contest, and a new barbecue grill was raffled off. Ideas include an antique tractor show and chefs' cooking demonstrations.  The Special Events & Music Committee also finds and works with certain local musicians to perform live music relevant to the market. Musicians in 2009 included a flute player with a repertoire of Native American melodies.

Food Committee
The Food Committee lines up vendors who cook fresh food, on-site to provide a wide variety of appropriate, healthy and popular food.

Volunteer Committee
The Volunteer Committee recruits and mentors new helpers to find the best roles for all volunteers.
This committee reaches beyond our past reach, seeking new faces and talents by making volunteer opportunities known in places the OFM has not yet been effectively represented.

Promotion and Marketing Committee
This Committee submits PSA copy to local media by deadline, increases public awareness of the OFM via social media, outdoor signs, yard signs, storefront signs and paid ads in print media.
